Leigh Marling is the founder and Creative Director of London-based design agency Blue Source.
Blue Source initially specialized in Record & CD sleeves, creating award-winning artwork for bands and brands, before Leigh ventured into the field of music videos with his long time friend and creative collaborator, Rob Leggatt. Together they directed successful clips for Fat Boy Slim, New Order, The Avalanches and Dirty Vegas, winning numerous awards, including MTV Europe Best Music Video Award and a Grammy Nomination.
The Blue Source directing team quickly turned their eye to commercials and established themselves with spots for Pizza Hut, Smirnoff, Snickers, T-Mobile, and Wrigley’s, building a reel based on inventive storytelling, smart humour and carefully designed visuals. Establishing themselves among the top directors in their field, the duo went on to develop a strongly cinematic style that won them awards at Cannes, The One Show, Addys and The Clio’s.
In 2011 Leigh moved to Los Angeles and began the process of evolving into a solo director, taking on projects individually under the Blue Source name and directing award winning work for Lego and Hyundai. In 2014 the Blue Source name was finally ‘retired’ and Leigh continues to live and work as a filmmaker and photographer under his own name from his homes in Venice, California and Malaga, Spain.
Recent successes in the US include Super Bowl spots for Applebee’s and Living Social, alongside award winning work for Kraft and Bell.
Recently, Leigh has been traveling to Mexico to focus on producing, writing and directing the feature film, ANA PAULA.
